“Computers don’t think, all they can do is calculate. But when does calculation become thinking?” This is the question keypuncher Jack Heyward keeps asking himself when the system he’s using suddenly starts talking back to him. But Jack has another problem; that system is an especially sensitive one, and he’s suspected of a major security breach. And even if he, his new computer friend and his girlfriend can manage to elude the massive manhunt, a new and still more deadly peril awaits him.

An enjoyable read. Only four stars, however, because there are some typos in the text and because the treatment of religion is so shallow (the old reward/punishment misconception). This is understandable from the main character's perspective; but surely Spook must have come across C. S. Lewis' "Mere Christianity" while perusing every computer internet! But overall, a good story. Somebody should make a movie of it (after beefing up the theology, of course).Product details

AI eBook Colin Barrett Reviews
very interesting treatment of morality, governmental paranoia and with some very good character development. The final ending is very good.
I read the first two chapters of this book as a serial on line and decided that I didn't want to wait on the postings of the next chapter. I bought the book and sat down and read it over the next day and a half. It is well written, well thought out, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Wouldn't be too upset to see an A.I.2, Son of Spook........ enjoy the story!
